From the Director: New Year–New Possibilities!

Happy New Year written in the snow

As we welcome 2025, there’s a fresh sense of possibility in the air. The start of a new year is always a reminder of endless opportunities for learning and growth, and this year, we’re excited to continue supporting each other and our community on that journey.

Whether setting new goals, refining skills, or taking that first step toward something big, the new year is all about progress, not perfection. We’re here to help you make the most of it, with plenty of classes, workshops, and support along the way.

Searching for fulfilling work, Monique first thought about massage years ago. Eventually, she decided to call KCHA, and two weeks later, she officially began her schooling.

Giving massage is therapeutic for Monique, and she feels like she has found her spot to give people a safe and healing space. Monique is honored to get to help people relax and manage their pain so they can live fulfilling lives.

Being an intern at KCHA is about gaining experience under guidance and growing her confidence. She loves being at the school and continuing to interact with all the students and instructors.

The KCHA Intern Clinic is where newly graduated students who have completed their mandatory clinic hours perform massage and continue to hone their skills while waiting to receive their licenses.

Are you ready to experience the light touch technique of CranioSacral Therapy?

CranioSacral Therapy, or CST, is a non-invasive technique that directly connects to the Central Nervous System and the body’s innate wisdom to heal itself when given the opportunity and possibility. It can release tension,   pain, and dysfunction deep in the body where long-lasting effects of past trauma may have gone unnoticed yet still influence your thoughts,  emotions, and behaviors. Besides physical changes, CST can affect and release emotions buried in the tissues.

CSW1 and CSW2 are being offered as a package:
CSW1 will be on March 22-23, 2025, from 9 AM – 6 PM
CSW2 will be on May 3-4, 2025, from 9 AM – 6 PM

In these sessions, you will learn the:
* History of CST
* Anatomy of CST
* Relationship between fascia and diaphragms

Healthtalk: The Benefits of Oncology Massage

For people with cancer, massage therapy, particularly oncology massage, offers a holistic approach to improving their well-being. Oncology massage is tailored to the specific needs of the individual, taking into account conditions such as bone pain, low blood cell counts, immune suppression, lymphedema, sensitive skin, and the presence of medical devices.

Despite the unique challenges, research shows that oncology massage significantly reduces:

Pain levels in people with breast cancer.

Fatigue and nausea caused by treatment.

Anxiety, stress, and depression by lowering cortisol levels and improving psychological well-being.

Peripheral neuropathy, such as numbness, tingling, and pain in the hands and feet, caused by treatment.

Oncology massage also offers:

Reduced swelling and discomfort associated with lymphedema through Manual Lymphatic Drainage

(MLD).

Improved range of motion and reduced scar discomfort.

Improved mood by reducing symptoms of depression and mood disorders.

Enhanced sleep, which is often disrupted by cancer treatment.

Increased sense of control and connection by reducing isolation and easing symptoms.

Including massage in a comprehensive care plan can empower those facing cancer, helping them feel more in control and improving their overall quality of life. If you or a loved one is interested, consider contacting local wellness centers specializing in oncology massage.
