Working With Text Neck: A Digital-Age Epidemic

Course description

Text Neck is an overuse syndrome and postural misalignment of the upper body that occurs during extended hours of using mobile devices to view and send data, compose work, and play games using poor ergonomics.

The average adult spends upwards of 5 hours a day on their mobile devices. Younger generations spend up to 8 hours a day in a compromised posture (8-18 yr olds.) Because their spines are still developing, risk for TN consequences and long-term damage is enormous.

This course will help you to understand the intricate connections of symptoms and potential risks so that your assessment, treatment and aftercare recommendations are as effective as possible, and so that you are confident explaining it all to your clients in a language they are familiar with.

She has instructed public and private classes and helped train both yoga teachers and massage therapists in NYC and around the world. She spent a year as a Global Trainer for the non-profit Wellness for Cancer, where her responsibilities include traveling to US and international spas, hotels, and retreat centers to lead courses for massage therapists and yoga instructors that prepare them to confidently work with cancer survivors.

She teaches three continuing education courses that she has authored for LMTs and other health care providers, and is a speaker for corporate and industry events on the topics of mindfulness and meditation, and she sits on the board of The Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in NYC.

She’s also created a meditation and goal-shaping technique called MINDSCAPING® that fuses together powerful healing exercises from the ancient science of yoga and meditation, modern-day Western medicine and evidence-based psychology and neuroscience.

Jessica holds a degree in Human Biology with a focus in behavioral neuroscience from the State University of New York (2010) and is a graduate of the Swedish Institute in NYC (2006) and The Americana School of Thai Massage in Los Angeles (2004).
